Retaining Staff and Recruiting Effectively

Now more than ever, business owners are seeing the difficulty of retaining and hiring new people.

To deal with this problem, I suggest going back to a basic “ no-nonsense approach ”. We are in the 21st century and we must recognize, and above all never forget, that if we have a company that feeds our families and our fortunes, it is thanks to our customers and our staff.

I have identified three main areas to consider when developing an HR strategy:

  1. Establish a “comprehensive management structure”. Develop or improve your internal management policy which will include an interpersonal and sectoral communication formula. Believe me, the development and implementation of such a policy makes it possible to create an atmosphere of belonging, well-being, harmony, accountability, pride, understanding of the role of each stakeholder, resulting in a better performance of your business.
  2. Implement a profit-sharing formula for the company by sector of activity to achieve financial objectives. Obviously, there are other more complicated formulas, but in fact why complicate life when we can keep it simple. Don’t worry, you can always keep your secret garden. Let us remember that our staff is intelligent and informed, what better than to show them our appreciation if profits are there.
  3. Establish a human/social program with timely information. This is to recognize the value of our staff, not just in terms of their monetary return, but above all as human beings. Understanding their motivations and dreams outside of work is beneficial for both the employee and the company. Remember, they are all part of our extended family.

 

Communication and the sense of belonging of our employees are the two main elements of their motivation. As an entrepreneur I can assure you, no matter the size of your business, that if you put these policies in place you will retain your employees and make it easier to hire competent personnel. As a result, you will increase the profitability of your business.
